Pleased to announce the third We Have Tablets event! This month we have two great talks lined up:

• "Capacitive Technology to Gestures" by Robert Ferguson, architect at Chromatik
• "Designing for Android Phones and Tablets" by Albert Lai and Jean Hsu from Pulse.

Robert's talk will be on the capacitive technology used in iPads, what its limitations are, how iOS exposes it, and tricks in implementation. 

Jean and Albert will be talking about designing for phones vs tablets, best tips for dealing with a wide range of different screen sizes and densities, and optimizing for Honeycomb tablets. While this talk will focus mainly on Android apps, many of the design tips will be applicable to iOS as well. 

This event is being hosted at the very impressive and historic Mechanic's Institute at 57 Post St on Wednesday September 7th 6-8pm. The conference room is on the  the 4th floor. Join our Meet-Up Group for more details.

Chromatik

Chromatik is redefining how students learn music. Their adaptive learning platform brings the world’s best music techniques, teachers, and resources to students’ fingertips via mobile and desktop applications. In essence, what Rosetta Stone did for languages,  Chromatik is doing for music.

Robert Ferguson

Rob is a software architect with a lifetime dedication to music. He has lead and developed software at Cisco’s Flip Video and Avid’s Professional Editors divisions. Rob holds an MA in Music Technology from McGill University and completed a National Science Foundation Grant in Computer Vision at Johns Hopkins. 

Pulse

Pulse takes your favorite websites and transforms them into colorful mosaics to make your reading experience more visually engaging. Earlier this year, they worked closely with the Google Android team to optimize Pulse for Honeycomb tablets. Since then, they have been heavily featured on Android Market, and have over 2.5 million downloads across all Android devices.                                                                                                                                          

Jean Hsu       

Jean has been working on Android development at Pulse since last November. Before she entered the startup world, she was working at Google on P2P payment experiments and then ramping up on Android development with some independent apps. Jean holds a Bachelor's of Engineering in Computer Science from Princeton University. She blogs and tweets about her startup adventures and Android tips at jeanhsu.com and @jyhsu.                                                                                                                                           

Albert Lai                                                                          

Albert began working on Pulse for Android while on vacation in China during the summer of 2010. His first foray into Android development was for the 2009 Android Developer's Challenge and has been enamored with the mobile world since. He received his Bachelor's in EECS from UC Berkeley followed by a Masters in CS at Stanford. You can follow Albert on twitter @albertlai
